Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Tony Picard -- a 6-foot-4, 400-pound running back in Washington state -- has run for more than 700 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.
And he's still in high school.
Picard plays for his school team, the White Swan Cougars, in a town 30 miles south of Yakima. He garnered attention over the weekend after his highlight reel surfaced on YouTube and went viral.
“It’s so much fun to have him go out [on the field] as a captain and see him shaking hands before the game,” Picard's coach, Andrew Bush, told the Indian Country Today Media Network. "They’re just kind of staring, like ‘Oh my gosh, you’ve got to be kidding me!”
Bush said that Picard, "a crowd favorite," will graduate next year, though he has yet to decide where he'll go to school.
“It’s just not going to be as much fun,” Bush said of Picard's imminent departure. “When we come out of the locker room and watch the other team’s heads; they’ll [no longer] turn and look at what they’re going to have to tackle.”
