Ruben Studdard kicked off 'Biggest Loser' ranch

The former "American Idol's" 5-pound weight loss wasn't enough for a week's worth of work at the "Biggest Loser" ranch.

(UPI) -- Ruben Studdard lost 39 pounds during his four-week stint on the Biggest Loser ranch, where he'd been competing for a chance to win $250,000. But the 35-year-old, velvety-voiced crooner got booted from the show after Tuesday night's underwhelming 5-pound weigh-in.

"I worked really, really hard this week," Studdard, American Idol's second season winner, said when he stood on the scale. "I swam extra. I walked extra."

Unfortunately, he didn't lose the 11 pounds needed to stay in the weight-loss competition.

Studdard, who topped out at 462 pounds when she started the show, promised to continue to lose weight when he left the ranch. He still has a chance to compete for a $100,000 cash prize.

"I gave all I had this week, but it just wasn’t enough to keep me on the ranch," Studdard wrote in his weekly post for Parade mag. "I’m glad that I had the courage to come to the ranch and show the world that you’re never too far away to turn and go right. I may not be the Biggest Loser, but I am a champion!"
