Because of how he negotiated his contract, Kobe Bryant gets most of his salary in one payment. Today, he'll make a cool $24.4 million.

The All-Star guard's entire salary for the season is nearly $30.5 million, so the remaining $6.1 million will be paid out over the course of the season. Players can only earn 80 percent of their salaries in advance, and Bryant has gotten about as close as he can to that maximum.
Bryant will not be playing while he sits on his cash, though, as he recovers from a tear in his Achilles tendon. He was injured on April 12 and underwent surgery the same day. He will be out between six and nine months.
