(UPI) -- Students at Little Elm High School in Texas were on precautionary lockdown for nearly two hours Wednesday morning, after several students reported a potential threat to police.
Police Chief Waylan Rhodes told reporters that students were alarmed when they heard that a male freshman "facetiously" threatened to bring a gun to school when a classmate was teasing him.
After SWAT teams conducted a room-to-room sweep, officials lifted the lockdown. Police said the student had not attended classes that day, but had been in Dallas with his mother.
"LEHS ALL CLEAR—Under the direction of LEPD, the lockdown has been lifted," the school said via Facebook. "All students and staff have been accounted for at this time. School is open – visitors please report to the front office.”
"As [a] school official, we are pleased the students who thought there might be a threat to this campus or to another individual on campus reported it," school rep Julie Zwhar said. "The appropriate system was in place that followed and resulted in a safe outcome."
The school also refuted previous media reports that the lockdown had started with threats made on social media. No one was injured.
