(UPI) -- Demarius Reed, a wide receiver for the Eastern Michigan football team, was found dead Friday morning.

Police are calling the death a homicide, despite limited details. Reed's roommate found his body at 7:15 a.m. in the hallway of an apartment building near campus in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Ypsilanti police detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts said a gunshot wound was found on Reed's body, and is believed to be the cause of death. By noon, detectives had cleared the scene, while officers stayed behind to finish clearing the area.

Reed, a junior from Chicago, had started in every game this season and was the team's fourth-leading receiver.

Residents of the apartment complex said there was a party the night before, but did not notice any suspicious persons or hear any gunshots.
