(UPI) -- While rehearsing for a charity event, broadway legend Liza Minnelli broke her wrist in three places.

Despite the injury, Minnelli pushed through the pain and performed Monday night at the event in New York City.

The event was a cancer benefit in which Minnelli performed with her sister, Lorna Luft, who is currently battling breast cancer. This was the sisters' first tandem performance in 20 years.

Minnelli's doctors advised the 67-year-old not to perform, but she tied a pink handkerchief around her cast and made sure the show went on.

"Nothing was going to stop me from coming here tonight. Lorna asked me to be here and I wouldn’t let her down," Minnelli said during the show.

Minnelli headed back to the hospital right after the performance for further treatment.

"This event means the world to me," Luft said tonight. "I'm so grateful to be feeling so well and performing again."
