Some people have called him a monster. But today, we'll just call O.J. Simpson a cookie monster.

The football star-turned-felon was reportedly caught stealing more than a dozen oatmeal cookies from the cafeteria in the Nevada prison where he is serving 33 years for armed robbery.

"O.J. just stood there with a goofy grin on his face as the guard kept digging inside his shirt and throwing the cookies on the floor," an unnamed source told the National Enquirer. "The temptation of the cookies in the prison chow line was too much for him."

Once slim and strong, Simpson has put on a lot of weight in recent years and struggles with severe diabetes. His doctors have told him to cut back on the sweets and exercise more, but the diet is apparently going poorly.

The source said his fellow prisoners thought Simpson had been caught with a cell phone or other illicit, only to get a quite a surprise when the guards revealed the nature of his contraband.

"When the guard started pulling cookies out of O.J.'s shirt, the other inmates started laughing so hard they nearly fell over," the source said, adding that, while he was embarrassed, Simpson has little other than his favorite foods to give him pleasure these days.

Still, he was let off with only a warning.

UPDATE: The Nevada Department of Corrections refuted the Enquirer report in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

"There is no validity to the reports that inmate Simpson was caught stealing cookies," the department's public information officer told the paper.
