As former Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal continues his effort to improve the Sacramento Kings, he has now bought a stake in the team.

The Kings are undergoing an image makeover following the late-May sale of the team to software billionaire Vivek Ranadive. By adding O'Neal as a minority owner, they are hoping the franchise will see a turnaround.

O'Neal will begin his involvement with the Kings today as he meets with players and coaches in Sacramento, followed by dinner with up-and-coming Kings star DeMarcus Cousins.

"What interested me in this deal is the new vision, the new Kings, the new everything," said O'Neal, who famously called the Kings the "Queens" at the start of the 2002-2003 season.

"I've always wanted to be part of something like this. ... It's going to be great."
