Wes Welker still adjusting as new Broncos WR as team stuns Ravens in NFL opener

Wes Welker is still settling in in Colorado as he becomes the Broncos' go-to wide receiver.

Welker started running routes for his new quarterback, Peyton Manning, in April after leaving the Patriots in mid-March. He has been practicing with the team all of August after partial practice the five months before.

"I still feel like the new kid in school," he said. "I don't think you ever really arrive. That's the way you have to look at it. The moment you think you've arrived, that's when you're going to have a bad year, or have a bad game. You've got to keep that edge."

With the lopsided final score in Thursday's season opener -- the Broncos beat the Ravens 49-27 -- Welker may finally find his place.

Welker set records at Texas Tech as a wide receiver and punter, but he was never picked in the 2004 draft. He signed as an undrafted rookie with San Diego, who dropped him after one game. He then moved to the Dolphins, where he got limited play until the 2005 season. With the Patriots, despite 112 receptions per season, he still never had his spot.

But at last, working with Manning, Welker may have found his place in the NFL.
