If you've been living in a pop cultural wasteland over the last couple of weeks, you might be unfamiliar with twerking -- the booty-shaking dance move prominently featured in Miley Cyrus' eyebrow-raising performance at the VMAs last month.

Twerking is decades old, but Cyrus brought it to the attention of the mainstream media. Now, everyone from Brooke Shields to Harry Styles has had their say. "Twerk" even made it into the Oxford Dictionary.

But Demi Lovato, one of Cyrus' former BFFs, has had enough.

"Can the world stop talking about twerking please?" the 21-year-old tweeted Tuesday.

"Btw - no shade thrown," she added when some wondered whether she'd taken a hit at her former Disney Channel colleague. "Don't even try to start that crap. Haha... the term twerking just needs to disappear like the word swag does too."

"I just don't know what happened to the word 'dancing," Lovato said. "Can I getta amen?!!"
