With just over two weeks left before the expected unveiling of the new iPhone, rumors surrounding the updated device have begun to coalesce around a few high-profile specifics.

New images leaked by emerging Apple insider Sonny Dickerson not only seemed to confirm reports the so-called iPhone 5S would come with a pale gold option, but also a silver or graphite-backed model.

Other images revealed the reported plastic casing of the cheaper device unofficially dubbed the iPhone 5C, which comes in five plastic-cased colors instead of the anodized metal backing the debuted with the iPhone 5.

Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone in an event at its headquarters September 10, and phones will likely hit stores September 20.

In addition to the new colors, a faster processor, and updated camera and flash and a fingerprint scanner are predicted to top the list of significant "under the hood" improvements on the new phone, which appears to follow Apple's established pattern of introducing a more incremental, internal update (the "S" model: the iPhone 3GS followed the 3G, the 4S followed the iPhone 4, and so on) after each major external hardware redesign.
