Alabama football: Cornerback Geno Smith arrested for DUI

By CAROLINE LEE, UPI.com

Geno Smith, sophomore cornerback for No. 1-ranked Alabama, was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence.

His bond was set at $1,000. Smith was still listed as an inmate at Tuscaloosa County Jail at 11 a.m., but was no longer listed at 7:45 p.m.

"This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players," Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. "I don't have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I've had a chance to review the information."

Smith was a regular contributor for Alabama's secondary during his freshman year, with nine tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defended in 13 games.

Smith is the first Alabama player to be arrested since February, when four players were involved in multiple incidents of second-degree robbery and credit card fraud.

All four players were initially suspended and eventually dismissed from the team. Saban has not determined how to handle Smith's arrest, and a full police report has not yet been released.
