Grace Kelly gets museum exhibit in hometown Philly

Philadelphia's own Princess Grace is getting a tribute exhibit in her hometown, James A. Michener Art Museum officials announced at a news conference appropriately held at the Hotel Monaco.

"She had her Philadelphia roots with her wherever she went, from Hollywood to Monaco," Christopher Le Vine said of his aunt, movie star-turned-royal Grace Kelly.

The exhibit will highlight her legacy, style and, of course, her roots in Philadelphia. Kelly was born in Philadelphia in 1929, going on to become a film icon with roles in several Alfred Hitchcock films and won an Academy Award for "The Country Girl" in 1955.

She gave up her film career in 1956 to marry Prince Rainier III, and went on to leverage her status as a fashion icon and princess of the tiny European principality to work to benefit the arts and children's issues and became president of the Monaco Red Cross.

Kelly had three children, Princess Caroline, Princess Stéphanie, and Prince Albert II, the current ruler of Monaco. She died in a car accident in 1982.

Prince Albert, who is scheduled to attend the exhibit's opening on October 26, offered his congratulations through a recorded message.

"I am deeply touched by your interest in my mother and her rich legacy," he said. "I hope that through experiencing this exhibition you will be able to get a glimpse of the real Grace Kelly, the woman beyond the icon, my mother."
