Tropical storm Henriette is now a hurricane

A new tropical storm, Henriette, has now become a hurricane an it's churning westward through the central Pacific Ocean, around 1,600 miles east-southeast of the Hawaiian Islands.

According to Weather.com the hurricane is expected to head northwest and then turn west over the next five days. While there is no land on its predicted path, the Hawaiian Islands are still in danger of being brushed by the hurricane.

The hurricane is expected to gain strength over the next days, but will reportedly be weakened by more stable air and cooler waters on Wednesday or Thursday.

Henriette was traveling with sustained winds of 70 mph and was last spotted about 1,470 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, moving northwest at 12 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Monday night.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
