Jodi Arias judge tells attorneys to ready for September sentencing date

Jodi Arias famously told reporters that she'd rather face the death penalty than spend her life in prison after a jury convicted her of first degree murder last May. Months later, the 32-year-old prisoner has yet to be sentenced.

Arias appeared at Maricopa County Superior Court on Tuesday morning, where both parties were unable to set a new date for the sentencing phase of her trial. But according to ABC News, Judge Sherry Stephens told the defense and prosecution to be prepared for sentencing in late September.

That's when a new jury could be seated to decided whether Arias deserves life in prison or the death penalty. Alternatively, the prosecution could decided not to seek the death penalty this time.

In May, Arias was convicted of the 2008 murder of her lover, Travis Alexander, by stabbing him nearly 30 times and shooting him in the face.

A new hearing was scheduled for August 28.
