By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Singaporean officials have identified the man they believe murdered 67-year-old Tan Boon Sin and his son, 42-year-old Tan Chee Heong, last week, the Straights-Times reported Sunday.

Iskandar Rahmat, a 34-year-old police officer, allegedly murdered the two men in the city-state's Kovan neighborhood, though authorities have yet to say how or whether Rahmat knew them.

Boon Sin was found dead in his home on Wednesday. His son's body was dropped at the Kovan MRT station 1 kilometer away from the home, according to Channel News Asia.

"This case is especially troubling as the suspect is a police officer," Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean told reporters.

He said that Malaysian authorities arrested Rahmat after he'd crossed the border on a scooter.

We had not earlier released any details for operational reasons as the police assessed that there was no threat to public safety, and revealing his identity was likely to have made his arrest more difficult to achieve.

"Today is a sad day for the police," Police Commissioner Ng Joo Hee said.
