Menifee autistic boy: Terry Smith's remains found near family home, family member arrested

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Terry Smith's family and friends had been searching for the 11-year-old autistic boy since he went missing from his home on Saturday night, when police announced Wednesday that they had found "shallow grave containing partially exposed human remains."

Police arrested an unnamed 16-year-old Smith family member for murder, though they wouldn't confirm that the suspect was Terry's 16-year-old brother, the last person to see Terry before he disappeared.

Smith's mother put Terry's brother in charge when she went out Saturday evening.

"The brother was walking away from their residence, turns back, sees that Terry's following him and tells Terry, 'Hey, go home,'" an officer said earlier in the week.

Local residents described Smith as "very good kid" who "never did anything wrong,"

Investigators have yet to confirm the identity of the remains, though they fit Terry's description.
