Madelyn Sheaffer, kicked out of water park for skimpy swimsuit, finds support online

Having just lost 100 pounds, Madelyn Sheaffer, of Independence, Mo., proudly wore a bikini to a local water park last week, and was surprised when two employees told her to put on shorts.

According to the KSHB-TV, the media outlet that originally reported the story, Sheaffer said a supervisor booted her for her allegedly inappropriate attire when she refused to cover up.

“I just felt like I was singled out,” Sheaffer said.

I felt like it was both age and body discrimination and I felt like I could look around me and I could see a handful of other girls half my age, wearing the same size swimming suit and not being singled out and told to put on clothes or leave.

Midwest Pool Management, the organization in charge of Adventure Oasis water park, said that it relied on the staff to decide what kind of attire was "inappropriate."

After filing a complaint with the city, Sheaffer took the cause to her Facebook page, posting messages about positive body image and thanking supporters from around the world.

In addition to other countries already mentioned, I have now heard from Greece, China, Hong Kong...and received over 500 beautiful letters from Brazil. I have been wanting to see the world, and now the world is coming to me, and sending much Love.

One thing I have learned so far, is that there is a much greater viewpoint and perspective of the human body than what is to be found in Independence, Missouri worldwide,.... and I thank and appreciate you for that!
