NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has reportedly accepted Venezuela's asylum offer, according to a post made by a Russian official on Twitter.

The post claiming that Snowden had accepted President Nicolas Maduro's offer was written in Russian by Alexei Pushkov and it claimed that the former NSA employee had decided that going to Venezuela was the most "reliable option."

Thought Pushkov has since deleted the tweet, Anthony de Rosa, the editor-in-chief at Circa, tweeted an english version of the post.

For the past couple of weeks, Snowden, who infamously leaked information about a United States intelligence program that monitored Internet activity, has remained in limbo at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport.

Until today's revelation, the 29-year-old whistleblower had not replied to any of the offers of asylum he's received from Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua. Though he initially received an offer form President Vladimir Putin to stay in Russia, Snowden turned it down as it came with the condition that he "stop harming our American partners."
