Cicely Tyson's Tony Awards acceptance speech

Cicely Tyson received a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play on Sunday.

Tyson, 79, returned to Broadway in 2012 for one "last role" in "The Trip to Bountiful" after a 30-year absence. During her acceptance speech, the actress spoke about her hiatus and added that she never thought she'd return to the stage, until she finally decided to give it one last try.

"I had a burning desire to do more great roles. I didn't want to be greedy. Just one more."

The Academy Award nominee also opened up about having outlived her immediate family.

"I'm the sole surviving member of my immediate family. I've asked over and over again why," she said. "I now know why."

While closing her speech Tyson wasn't shy about making a pun of the instructions on the teleprompter asking her to wrap up.

"Please wrap it up … which is exactly what you did to me. You wrapped me up in your arms after 30 years, and now I can go home with a Tony."
