McDonald's breakfast menu has proved so popular over the years that it's even found its way into popular culture, with the beloved Egg McMuffin featuring prominently in a "Big Daddy" storyline in 1999. But instead of extending breakfast past the 10-a.m. hour, some 24-hour McDonald's locations will start adding breakfast items to their late-night menus.

The Chicago Tribune reported Thursday that the fast food chain has starting testing an "After Midnight" menu, which would serve Egg McMuffins, Big Macs, Chicken Nuggets, hotcakes and a number of breakfast and lunch options from midnight until 4 a.m.

"Our customers want convenience around the clock, and we’re making it easier to eat at McDonald’s with more 24-hour restaurants open than ever before," McDonald's said in a statement.

The new menu is being tested in several markets first -- including Delaware and Texas.

USA Today explains that the "After Midnight" offerings are "expected to appeal more to Millennials who typically like to eat what they want, when they want."

But Burger Business editor Scott Hume told the Tribune that "late-night shift workers" and "extremely early risers" might also be hankering for Egg McMuffins before the sun rises.
