Looks like Anna Ayala is not a very good liar.
The woman that made headlines for planting a severed finger in a bowl of Wendy's chili spent four years in prison for the hoax.
Now, she'll be sent back to the joint for covering for her 26-year-old son. Guadalupe "Junior" Reyes shot himself in the leg while on parole with a gun he wasn't allowed to have, according to the Mercury News.
Ayala, 47, knew her son would get in trouble if he told the truth about the incident. Instead, she blamed the shooting on two men the pair didn't like.
When police began questioning the men, it became clear they had no idea about the incident.
The two get a mother-son stay in the Santa Clara County Jail until they are sentenced in September.
Reyes will also get two years in prison after breaking parole for a felony burglary conviction and later lying to authorities.
The judge did not give Ayala the maximum sentence, saying that she came clean rather than sending them on a further lie-based chase. She pleaded no contest to filing a false police report, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being an accessory to felony.
Ayala planted the severed finger in 2005 and potentially cost Wendy's millions of dollars in revenue. Her original sentence was nine years but was shortened after a resentencing trial.
