Christiane Amanpour's husband, James Rubin, resigns as Port Authority head

James Rubin, a former journalist who once served under Bill Clinton as the State Department's chief spokesman, has resigned his post as commissioner of the Port Authority of New York to move to London with his wife, Christiane Amanpour.

According to the New York Times, Rubin plans to spend his time in London writing a book about American military force and contributing to the New Republic.

“With new ownership and financial stability and management team, [The New Republic] should be a great forum for serious thinking and writing about America’s role in the world and specific U.S. foreign policy challenges,” Rubin told Politico on Friday.

“I got a real intense dose of New York politics," Rubin said of his work with the Port Authority.

I operated in international affairs, but I had never really gone down into the real nitty-gritty of local politics. So I learned a lot about mayors and governors. … And I learned a lot about Jersey politics, which I knew nothing about. And I tell you: That’s hard core.

Rubin was appointed to the Port Authority position a year and a half ago by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He also served as an advisor to the governor on international issues.

Amanpour will continue to work as CNN's chief international correspondent and host "Amanpour" from London.
