After concerned residents of a Jinhua City apartment complex heard cries coming from the fourth floor last weekend, emergency workers rushed to rescue a newborn baby that had become lodged in one of the building's sewer pipes.
According to CNN, the first crews on the scene could see the baby's foot deep inside the ceramic bowl toilet. Unable to dislodge the baby from a sawed-away section of pipe, the infant was taken to a local hospital still inside.
Doctors determined that the two-day-old baby had a low heart rate and difficulty breathing when he was finally pried away from the pipe, afterbirth still attached, but his prognosis was good.
According to NBC News, Chinese police believe they know who the baby's parents are and are treating the incident as attempted murder.
