Former Democratic congressman Anthony Weiner was spotted shooting a video on the steps of his childhood home in Brooklyn, apparently confirming speculation he plans to run for New York City mayor, NBC 4 New York reports.

Weiner sat next to his wife, Huma Abedin, on the steps of the Brooklyn home where he announced his 2005 bid for mayor. They quickly left after being spotted by the local news crew.

Weiner resigned his congressional seat two years ago amid a Twitter sexting scandal. Prior to leaving the public spotlight, Weiner had been planning a 2013 run and still had more than $4 million in his campaign coffers when he emerged as a potential candidate this year.

After favorable polling, Weiner gave a series of interviews detailing his efforts to repair his marriage and asking the public for forgiveness. He acknowledged there could still be sexually suggestive photos "out there" related to the sexting scandal, but that New Yorkers already "know the story."

Weiner hasn't yet officially announced his bid, but he has hired an untested campaign manager and released a 21-page policy booklet.
