Quarterback stabbing arrest: Man arrested in assault of Trevor Sasek

Detectives in Newark, Del., arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of stabbing a University of Delaware quarterback early Sunday morning.

Newark resident Michael J. Creed was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapons during a felony in the stabbing of Trevor Sasek, 22, Cpl. Gerald Bryda said.

The incident occurred in a mall parking lot about 1:20 a.m. According to the police report citing witness statements and surveillance video, Creed began yelling a group of Delaware students. He leaned into a car and got out again, and then grabbed Sasek by the shoulder and struck him several times.

Sasek only realized he had been stabbed after Creed fled.

The quarterback was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery for three stab wounds in his chest and abdomen, a University of Delaware statement confirmed. He was reported in stable condition Monday.

Creed is being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $60,000 bail.
