Slayer's guitarist Jeff Hanneman, died of liver cancer in California on Thursday, the band's Facebook page said in a statement. He was 49. "Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

The BBC reports Hanneman had been dealing with necrotising fasciitis, a flesh eating disease, since 2011. He is believed to have contracted it from a spider bite. There is no word if the skin disorder was connected to his liver failure.
Guns'n'Roses guitarist Slash shared his condolences for Hanneman on Twitter.
