Slayer's guitarist Jeff Hanneman, died of liver cancer in California on Thursday, the band's Facebook page said in a statement. He was 49.

The BBC reports Hanneman had been dealing with necrotising fasciitis, a flesh eating disease, since 2011. He is believed to have contracted it from a spider bite. There is no word if the skin disorder was connected to his liver failure.
Guns'n'Roses guitarist Slash shared his condolences for Hanneman on Twitter.
"Tragic and shocking news about Jeff Hanneman. He is going to missed by so many. What a sad day for Metal. RIP man."
