Jim Porter, who was named NRA president in March, has already started making his mark on the organization.

Porter took aim at Northerners in a June speech at the New York State Rifle & Pistol association, saying the NRA was "started by some Yankee generals who didn't like the way my Southern boys had the ability to shoot."

He continued with his Civil War rant: "Now, y'all might call it the Civil War, but we call it the 'War of Northern Aggression' down South."

Porter, the son of former NRA president Irvine Porter, is set to begin his two-year term on Monday.

He is outspoken about overturning recent gun laws adopted by states after the Newtown massacre, according to the NY Daily News.. He also supports firearms training for all U.S. citizens -- including civilians -- so they're "ready to fight tyranny."
