Dog eats deceased owner's head after being trapped in apartment

A dog ate his owner's head after getting trapped in the apartment where she died.

Spanish authorities told the NY Daily News the dog, a German Shepherd mix, became so hungry that he ate his owner's body to avoid starving to death.

The dog's 72-year-old owner had been dead for days before neighbors complained about a stench coming from the woman's apartment. ThinkSpain reported that neighbors knew the woman as a hoarder and assumed it was her garbage causing the odor.

The woman, who apparently died of natural causes, was thought to have had Alzheimer's disease. The dog did not show any signs of aggressive behavior and has since been taken in by an animal shelter in Valencia.
