It's no secret that Margaret Thatcher was a polarizing figure in British politics. But some anti-Thatcherites took their opposition to the next level, launching a Facebook campaign to put a Judy Garland classic back on the charts, just days after the so-called "Iron Lady's" death.

"Make 'Ding dong the witch is dead' number 1 the week Thatcher dies," the Facebook group reads.

The song has already topped the U.K.'s iTunes hit list, just above Duke Dumont's "Need U (100%)" and "Hey Porsche" by Nelly, though it still sits at number 3 on the Official Charts list, used by the BBC to determine which songs will be played on the radio's weekly hits show.

In a statement released Friday, the BBC said it planned to play a "short clip" of the song on their Sunday program -- just a few days before Thatcher's funeral -- despite calls for the BBC to ignore the song out of respect.

"The BBC finds this campaign distasteful but does not believe the record should be banned," the statement read.

"On Sunday, the Radio 1 chart show will contain a news item explaining why the song is in the charts during which a short clip will be played as it has been in some of our news programs."
