Mickey Rose, co-writer of 'Bananas,' dies at 77

Film and television writer Mickey Rose -- born Michael Rose -- died of cancer Sunday at his home in Beverly Hills.

According to the Los Angeles Times, his daughter Jennifer broke the news of Rose's death. She attributed her father's passing to cancer, which was diagnosed in January.

Rose gained notoriety in 1971 when "Bananas," a movie he co-wrote with Woody Allen, came out. The pair had been friends since childhood and also co-wrote "Take the Money and Run."

After his collaborations with Allen, Rose went on to work on television. He is best known for his work as a comedic writer for Johnny Carson and Sid Caesar as well as the shows "The Smothers Brothers," "All in the Family," and "The Odd Couple."
