With the summer movie season nearly upon us, a number of films debuted TV spots this week, including Zack Synder's highly anticipated Superman origin story, "Man of Steel." Though we've seen most of the footage in earlier trailers, the spot comes with a new synopsis, new running time (148 minutes) and more shots of Henry Cavill looking solemn. Blink and you'll miss "Law and Order: SVU's" Christopher Meloni.

"Man of Steel," starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne and Richard Schiff opens June 14.

Here's the synopsis:

A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.
