Former NY Rep. Anthony Weiner paid $100,000 for polling

Former U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner paid a political consulting firm $106,500 for polling and research, reports the New York Daily News.

The payments were made public Friday when Weiner’s political committee filed with the city’s Campaign Finance Board.

The Brooklyn Democrat resigned his congressional seat in 2011 after he was caught and lied about sexting with a woman other than his wife. At the time, he had been considered a frontrunner for the 2013 mayoral race.

New York Daily News reported back in January that New Yorkers had been surveyed by an anonymous polling company regarding their picks for mayor. One poll put Weiner in a hypothetical Democratic primary with 5 candidates.

Another survey taker was told to pick a candidate after hearing positive and negative statements about each. Weiner's positive statement was reportedly that he is married to Huma Abedin, longtime aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Weiner’s political committee, which retained 4.3 million after he left the political scene, paid the firm $52,500 on March 4 for “research” and $54,000 for “polling” the next day. Weiner said Friday he had “nothing to report beyond what I reported” to the Campaign Finance Board.
