After a group of researchers from the Department of Internal Medicine at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona put the Mediterranean diet to the test against a low-fat diet, it became clear the former provides the best nutritional tools to combat heart disease.
Dr. Ramón Estruch from Barcelona's Department of Internal Medicine led a study that followed participants and tracked their rates for heart attacks, stroke and heart disease, The New England Journal of Medicine reported.
