For 32 years Albert Lexie, who works as a shoe-shiner at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, has been donating his tips to the medical institution.

To this date, Lexie has donated $200,000 to the hospital, WTAE reported.

Though a shoe shine costs $5, Lexie's loyal customers are very generous with their tips since he began working at the hospital in 1981.

“Most of them give $6, some of them give $7,” Lexie told Channel 4.

Lexie pays it forward donating every cent to the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund.

“I think he does it because he loves the kids,” Dr. Joseph Carcillo told WTAE. “He's donated over a third of his lifetime salary to the Children’s Hospital Free Care Fund.”

Lexie's donations go to parents of sick children who can't afford to pay for medical expenses. Dr. Carcillo called him a "philanthropist" and an "entrepreneur," but the generous shoeshine has another title in mind.

“It’s good to be a hero,” he told Channel 4.
