Father of 6-year-old Sandy Hook victim remembers his daughter

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Emilie Parker, 6, was one of 20 children shot and killed in Friday's horrific massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Her grieving father, Robbie, fought back tears as he gave a moving and heartbreaking statement to reporters at a press conference Saturday, in which he remembered his daughter for her kindness, love of art and infectious laughter.

My daughter Emilie would be one of the first ones to be standing and giving her love and support to all those victims, because that’s the type of person that she is.

As the deep pain begins to settle into our hearts, we find comfort reflecting on the incredible person Emilie was and how many lives she was able to touch in her short time here on earth.

Emilie was bright, creative and very loving. Emilie was always willing to try new things, other than food. She loved to use her talents to touch the lives of everyone around her. She was an exceptional artist and always carried around her markers and pencils so that never missed an opportunity to draw a picture or make a card for those around her.

Emilie was a wonderful mentor to her two little sisters. She delighted in teaching them to read dance and find the simple joys in life.

Emilie’s laughter was infectious, and all those who had the pleasure to meet her would agree that this world is a better place because she has been in it.

Parker also sympathized with the family of the shooter, Adam Lanza:

We would really like to offer our deepest condolences to all the families directly affected by this horrific tragedy, and we want everyone to know you are in our hearts and our prayers go out to them, and this includes the family of the shooter. I can’t imagine how hard this experience must be for you. ... Our love and support goes out to you as well.

Friends of the Parker family set up the Emilie Parker Fund on Facebook to raise money for Emilie's memorial.
