Well-dressed monkey perplexes Ikea shoppers, becomes Twitter meme

A stylish simian wearing a camel-colored shearling coat paid an unexpected visit to a Toronto Ikea store Sunday, prompting a burst of excitement among fellow shoppers at the Swedish design warehouse, who know a fashionista when they see one.

Animal services eventually came for the escaped rhesus macaque monkey, but not before witness Bronwyn Page managed to document its journey around Ikea's parking lot on social media.

The monkey's sartorial sensibilities and penchant for budget-friendly furniture have even inspired two parody accounts, @IKEAmonkey and @Ikea_Monkey and the obligatory Ikea Monkey memes.

According to The Globe and Mail, the 7-month-old monkey escaped from its crate in a nearby car. Its owner faces a $240 fine for housing a prohibited animal in Toronto.
