Before each Christmas, dating back to 1970, a Christmas tree is installed on the lawn in front of the United States Capitol building.
The tree, dubbed "The People's Tree," is chosen from a national forest, is trimmed with decorations from the children of the state from which the tree comes. This year's tree comes from Colorado, a beautiful, 73-foot tall, 74 year old Engelmann Spruce from the White River National Forest near Meeker, Colorado.
