"So he calls me up and he's like, 'I still love you,' and I'm like, 'this is exhausting,'" country-pop songstress Taylor Swift says over the track in the emphatically titled new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

Swift, who has a history of writing breakup songs about her ex-boyfriends, has already told Good Morning America that her new single is based on a real ex (Which one?! the Web wants to know) conceived of when a friend of her former flame walked into her music studio.

"He starts talking about how he's heard we were getting back together and that was not the case," Swift said.

"When he leaves, Max and Johan are like, 'so what's the story behind that?' And so I start telling them the story of break up, get back together, break up, get back together, just, ugh, the worst."

Co-written by Swift and producer Max Martin, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" has already topped the iTunes top-10 list and is the first song off the singer's new album "Red."

Swift explained the concept behind "Red" on her Web site:

I called it 'Red' because of the tumultuous, crazy adventures in love and loss that it chronicles. In my mind, when you experience love that's fast paced and out of control and mixes infatuation, jealousy, frustration, miscommunication, and all of those lovely emotions…in retrospect, it all looks red.

"Red" will feature 16 songs and collaborations with other artists, including ginger-haired British singer Ed Sheeran.
