Space Shuttle Enterprise lands at Intrepid Museum in New York

A little over a month after the space shuttle Enterprise arrived in New York atop a specially-outfitted NASA 747 jet, it has been moved to its permanent home aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

The museum, a decommissioned aircraft carrier and a national historic landmark, will house the Enterprise at its flight deck pavilion, opening in July.

The shuttle, which has been housed at John F. Kennedy airport since it landed on April 27, took a barge from a near-water location at JFK around Brooklyn, past Coney Island and Bay Ridge before docking overnight in Boyonne, New Jersey.

The trip was delayed two days while the shuttle remained docked in New Jersey due to poor weather, before it traveled up the Hudson River and past the Statue of Liberty and Freedom tower, making its way to the Intrepid on Wednesday.
