Fire on bus in China kills one, injures six

URUMQI, China, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- One person died and at least six others were injured Monday when a bus caught fire in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, rescue officials said.

The bus caught fire around 11:30 a.m. local time while on Guangming Road in Urumqi, emergency responders said.

Six people were taken to the hospital with injuries, though witnesses said other passengers sought medical treatment on their own, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

There were about 20 passengers on the bus when the fire broke out, the bus driver, who was injured, said.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
