Torso in Lake Ontario suitcase identified

TORONTO, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A human torso in a suitcase found floating in Lake Ontario was that of a woman whose other parts have been found in and around Toronto, police said Thursday.

Forensic officials confirmed the remains found Wednesday were those of 41-year-old Guang Hua Liu, who has been missing since mid-August.

A man and woman riding personal watercraft more than a mile offshore midday Wednesday spotted the large, wheeled suitcase and towed it back to shore, the Toronto Star reported.

Initially, homicide detectives confirmed the remains were human, but said they were so badly decomposed, the gender wasn't apparent.

Liu's body parts and head started showing up Aug. 15 scattered near a river in Mississauga, west of Toronto, and then more parts were found in Toronto's east end.

Because the first parts were found in Mississauga, the Peel Regional Police department is leading the investigation into the Toronto woman's disappearance, death and dismemberment.

Her estranged boyfriend Chun Qi Jiang, 40, was charged with second-degree murder Aug. 26. He's due in court again Monday.
