U.K. tab reporter says enough is enough

LONDON, March 5 (UPI) -- A reporter for a British tabloid said he quit in protest over the paper's supposed anti-Muslim leanings.

Richard Peppiatt said he was leaving in protest over the sympathetic coverage his editors at the Daily Star gave the far-right English Defense League, which included fabricated stories about a local town council allocating money for "Muslim-only" public restrooms.

"I was tasked with writing a gloating follow-up declaring our post-modern victory in 'blocking' the non-existent Islamic cisterns of evil," Peppiatt wrote in his resignation letter, The Guardian said Saturday.

The Guardian said Peppiatt was once ordered to dress in a burqa for an assignment and spun a number of fictional stories about various celebrities during his two years with the Star.

"But when that cheap-and-cheerful journalism gives the oxygen of publicity to corrosive groups like the EDL ... it's time to lay down my pen," Peppiatt wrote.
