Last year, there were a total of 6,755 dog bites reported in the United States, the USPS said.

"Even good dogs have bad days," USPS Safety Director Linda DeCarlo said. "Dog bite prevention training and continuing education are important to keep pet owners, pets and those who visit homes -- like letter carriers -- happy and healthy."

The Postal Service released the rankings in anticipation of National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which runs April 9-15.
