Suspect arrested in death of N.Y. governor's aide at Brooklyn parade

NEW YORK, May 27 (UPI) -- Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of an aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo at a Brooklyn parade last summer.

Police announced Friday the arrest of a suspected gunman,, Micah Alleyne, and charged him with multiple criminal counts stemming from the attorney's death at the West Indian Day Parade in September.

Alleyne faces charges of murder, reckless endangerment and weapons charges, officials said.

Carey Gabay, 43, was near the parade route early in the morning of Sept. 7, 2015, when police say he became caught in the crossfire between two gangs. He was shot in the head and died after more than a week in a coma.

"As I have said from the beginning, we are determined to get justice for Mr. Gabay and his family. And we will continue to press forward until we hold everyone responsible for his death accountable," Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said in a statement.

Gabay was an aide to Cuomo and a first deputy general counsel at the Empire State Development Corp.

Authorities said they expect to make more arrests in the case.

Alleyne, 24, was arraigned Friday morning and ordered held without bail.
