NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Doctors at a New York hospital delivered a baby after a pregnant woman was gunned down outside her Queens apartment Wednesday morning.
Anastasia Maffey, 27, died soon after giving birth at Elmhurst Hospital. The baby, delivered at about 25 weeks, survived for several hours but then died.
The shooting occurred as Maffey returned home from taking her children to school at about 8:30 a.m..
Maffey was walking to her apartment and was shot feet from the front door. Her husband told police he heard gunfire and went out into the hall, where he found his wife lying on the floor.
The gunman remained at large late Wednesday, police said. Investigators said they wanted to question one of the dead woman's relatives, WABC-TV reported.
