PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A baby delivered after a pregnant woman was killed by a bullet intended for someone else survived her mother only a few hours, Philadelphia police said.

The newborn girl, delivered by Caesarian section, died at Temple University Hospital at 1:13 a.m. Monday. Her mother, Megan Doto, had died at the same hospital at 12:36 p.m. Sunday.

Police have offered a $40,000 reward for information leading to Doto's killer.

"It's very sad and very tragic that you have a young lady, 25 years old, in the prime of her life who is shot and killed. It's even more tragic that her baby was also killed," Homicide Capt. James Clark said. "This happened on a Sunday in broad daylight. We know that there were people that were out there. We need those people to give us a call."

Doto was sitting outside watching a neighbor's child Sunday morning when she was shot. Witnesses said the shooter was about a block away and appeared to be targeting a white car.

On her Facebook page, Doto predicted her child was a boy and said she planned to name him Carmine Joseph. She said the baby was due Oct. 15.
