Teacher falsely reports school shooting as April Fool's prank

No one was laughing and Angela Timmons was arrested as a result of her poor judgment.

Teacher Angela Timmons was arrested after falsely reporting a school shooting at Virginia College, where she worked, as an April Fool's Day prank.

Timmons texted her daughter from work, saying she heard gunshots inside the school and was hiding for her safety. When the daughter, April Timmons, responded and didn't hear back from mother, she called 911. Police were quickly dispatched and it was only then that Timmons admitted to her daughter that it was a hoax.

"Oh my goodness," the daughter told the 911 dispatcher. "She's saying she's playing an April Fools' joke. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry, sir."

Even though people were grateful there was no real gunman, no one thought Timmons' joke was in any way humorous.

"Text someone and tell them their tire's flat, that's funny," said Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright. "We're talking about death. It's real. The people of Sandy Hook, when they see this online, they're not going to think it's very funny. I don't think it's very funny."

Timmons was arrested with once charge of aggravated breach of peace, disturbing a school, and unlawful use of a telephone. She was released on $18,000 bond.
