WASHINGTON, March 20 (UPI) -- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has asked the sergeant at arms to determine if the CIA snooped on an Intelligence Committee investigation.
Reid requested that Terrance W. Gainer, the chief of law enforcement for the Senate, review the computers used by committee staffers reviewing CIA interrogations, the Washington Post reported. The CIA set up a special computer center in northern Virginia to allow staffers to review classified documents.
Reid, in a letter to CIA Director John Brennan, said Wednesday it is "patently absurd" to suggest the staffers got access to CIA computer networks.
"To my knowledge, the CIA has produced no evidence to support its claims that Senate committee staff who have no technical training somehow hacked into the CIA's highly secure classified networks," Reid said.
In another letter, Reid asked Attorney General Eric Holder to review the dispute. He suggested the CIA, as part of the executive branch, is ignoring the U.S. Constitution and its separation of powers.
"The CIA's decision to access the resources and work product of the legislative branch without permission is absolutely indefensible, regardless of the context," Reid said.
